Jesus has been arrested and is on trial before the high priest. Outside in the courtyard, Peter has followed secretly, and is warming himself by a fire. A servant girl of the high priest accuses him of being one of Jesus' followers. Peter repeatedly denies it, and the cock crows, just as Jesus had earlier predicted. Jesus looks directly at Peter, and Peter remembers the words he had said.
